
Azerbaijan and Turkey will provide mutual military assistance in case of “armed aggression”
“The purpose of the “Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Ministry of National Defense of the Republic of Turkey on Strengthening Mutual Military Security” is to strengthen cooperation in the field of defense between the parties in order to mutually ensure the security and territorial integrity of the states of the parties, as well as protect their sovereignty and independence,” said Arzu Naghiyev, the chairman of the parliamentary committee on Defense, Security and Counter-Corruption.
Nagiyev said that the document serves to deepen the Azerbaijan-Turkey strategic alliance: “The purpose of the memorandum is to strengthen mutual coordination in the field of military security, develop joint exercises, military education, and cooperation in the defence industry. The document consists of 8 articles. According to the agreement, the parties undertake to provide mutual assistance to each other in the exercise of the right of individual and collective self-defense recognized by Article 51 of the UN Charter in the event of armed aggression”.
