Russia has the strongest interests in the South Caucasus, I think our allies understand that։ Lavrov to Mirzoyan

Russia has the strongest interests in the South Caucasus region. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said this at a meeting with Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan in Moscow.

According to the minister, Moscow is ready to contribute to the definitive establishment of peace and stability in the region. He noted that the role of the tripartite statements signed by the leaders of Armenia, Russia and Azerbaijan is of great significance. These statements should be crucial in finding solutions to the existing issues, both in the peace treaty and unblocking the roads, as well as the border delimitation.

“I believe that progress in all these directions is a key condition for achieving peace in the South Caucasus. Russia has played a historical role and has the strongest interests in this region. I am convinced that our allies understand this,” the minister said. The Russian Foreign Minister added that the regulation of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan is the main topic of today’s tripartite meeting of the Russian, Armenian and Azerbaijani foreign ministers.
