Switzerland urges Armenia and Azerbaijan to keep moving toward lasting peace
Switzerland has called on Armenia and Azerbaijan to continue their efforts to ensure long-term peace in the South Caucasus, the Swiss Ministry of Foreign Affairs told Azerbaijani media outlets.
The ministry also highlighted the significance of the summit between the leaders of Armenia, the United States, and Azerbaijan, which took place in Washington on Aug. 8, 2025, within the framework of improving relations between the two South Caucasus countries.
“Switzerland welcomes the recent notable positive developments in relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, including the joint declaration adopted in Washington on Aug. 8, 2025. Switzerland calls on both sides to fully implement the agreed measures and to continue their efforts toward achieving lasting peace, which would benefit their peoples as well as the entire region,” the statement said.
Regarding Switzerland’s priorities during its 2026 chairmanship of the OSCE, the ministry stated that Bern intends to promote inclusive dialogue on security issues, work closely with all participating states, and advance solutions based on consensus acceptable to all 57 member countries.
In response to a question about a possible visit to the South Caucasus by the OSCE Chair-in-Office, Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis, the ministry stated that he plans to visit several OSCE member states but did not provide specific dates.
