Trump may consider additional measures against Iran
U.S. President Donald Trump is set to meet with senior administration officials to discuss potential additional measures against Iran, The Wall Street Journal reports, citing government sources.
Expected participants in the meeting include Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, and Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Gen. Dan Caine.
The possible measures under consideration could include covert cyberattacks targeting Iran’s military and civilian infrastructure, new sanctions against Tehran, and military strikes.
Meanwhile, RFE/RL reports that Trump may also meet with Iranian officials to discuss Tehran’s nuclear program. According to sources, Trump held a phone conversation on Jan. 10 with Iranian representatives regarding a potential meeting. He said the Iranian leadership has called for negotiations with Washington.
“The meeting is in the planning stage. We’ve received calls from Iran. They want to negotiate,” Trump stated.
