Israel to sign new 10-year security deal with US
Israel is interested in concluding a new 10-year security agreement with the United States that would set the framework for US military assistance in the coming years, the Financial Times reports.
According to the publication, Jerusalem is preparing to hold negotiations on the issue with the administration of US President Donald Trump.
The current memorandum of understanding on military assistance between the United States and Israel remains in force until 2028. Under the existing package, Washington has committed to providing Israel with $38 billion in aid during the 2019–2028 fiscal years, including funding for the purchase of US weapons and special provisions for missile defense.
According to the Financial Times, a key element of the discussions will be the format of future assistance. Israeli leaders are considering an option under which the country would gradually move away from “cash grants” and instead focus on joint projects and technological cooperation.
