US promises Ukraine security guarantees in exchange for giving up part of Donbas

The United States may provide security guarantees to Ukraine in exchange for Kyiv giving up control over part of the Donbas, Sky News reports, citing eight sources familiar with the negotiations.

According to the report, Washington has made it clear to Kyiv that the US is ready to start discussions on security guarantees only if Ukraine agrees to withdraw its troops from the areas of Donbas currently under its control.

At the same time, the US has stated that, if an agreement is reached, Ukraine could receive additional weapons supplies. The main purpose of these supplies would be to strengthen the Ukrainian army in the post-war period and increase the country’s defense capabilities in peacetime.
