Regional powers organize high-level talks on Iran’s nuclear program to prevent war,  The Washington Post writes

The United States and Iran are preparing for a high-level meeting with representatives from several regional countries, The Washington Post reports, citing informed sources.

Foreign ministers from Turkey, Qatar, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Oman, and Pakistan are expected to attend. According to the report, Jared Kushner, son-in-law of US President Donald Trump, will also participate.

The involvement of these regional foreign ministers could help smooth the path for direct negotiations between US and Iranian diplomats.

A US official said there is “still much work” to be done before the Istanbul meeting is confirmed. Sources indicate that Iran’s nuclear program will be the main topic of the talks. After discussing the nuclear dossier, the parties plan to move on to finding emergency solutions for non-nuclear issues proposed by Washington. Details about the potential agenda and the format of any future agreements have not yet been disclosed.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian wrote on X that any possible talks with the United States will be conducted solely within the framework of national interests. Responding to calls from friendly regional countries urging a response to the US president’s proposal, he said he had given instructions to the foreign minister.

“I have tasked the foreign minister with preparing the ground for fair negotiations within the framework of our national interests — based on the principles of dignity, wisdom, and appropriateness — only in the right environment, without threats or unreasonable expectations,” Pezeshkian said.
