Trump says Russia and US must develop new nuclear arms control treaty

Russia and the United States should not keep certain provisions of the Strategic Offensive Arms Reduction Treaty (START) in force, but instead develop a new agreement, US President Donald Trump has said.

“Rather than extend “NEW START” (A badly negotiated deal by the United States that, aside from everything else, is being grossly violated), we should have our Nuclear Experts work on a new, improved, and modernized Treaty that can last long into the future,” the US president wrote on Truth Social.

He added that his administration will continue the process of modernizing and strengthening the Armed Forces, stressing that the United States is the world’s most powerful country.
