Rutte admits differences within NATO, says it remains alliance of democracies
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte acknowledged that there are disagreements within the alliance regarding the US war against Iran.
“Spain is also actively participating in NATO missions. For example, a Spanish Patriot system has been deployed in Turkey for 10 years, protecting key American interests. Yes, there are differences, but this is an alliance of democracies,” Rutte told Reuters.
He added that he sees broad support in Europe for the actions of the US president.
“Allies are not becoming parties to the conflict, but are supporting the United States in its actions. And when disagreements arise among allies, I try to remain neutral so that I can help resolve them if necessary,” Rutte said.
