French soldier killed in Iraq
A French soldier has been killed in Erbil Governorate following a drone attack on a military base, according to French President Emmanuel Macron.
“A French soldier, Arnaud Frion, was killed while serving France during an attack near Erbil in Iraq,” the French president wrote.
Several other French soldiers were also wounded in the attack, Macron said.
He noted that France’s military presence in Iraq is part of counterterrorism agreements and stressed that the war in Iran cannot serve as a justification for such attacks.
