
US national debt surpasses $39 trillion for first time
The US national debt has exceeded $39 trillion for the first time, according to unofficial estimates.
Data provided by the US Department of the Treasury shows that the national debt first surpassed $38 trillion on Oct. 21 last year, approximately four months and 25 days ago.
As of March 16, the figure had reached $38.992 trillion, according to the Treasury.
At the same time, according to US Debt Clock, the total has already crossed the new threshold and continues to rise, currently standing at $39.003 trillion.
