Ursula von der Leyen says EU could send ships to Strait of Hormuz after hostilities end
The EU could deploy ships to the Strait of Hormuz only after the end of military operations by the United States and Israel against Iran, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen reaffirmed following talks with Australian PM Anthony Albanese.
Speaking about the role of European countries in ensuring safe navigation through the Strait, von der Leyen did not rule out such a possibility in the future.
“EU leaders have made it clear that any operational or mission options will be considered only after the conclusion of military actions,” von der Leyen was quoted as saying by The Australian.
She also acknowledged that the energy supply situation has already become “critical for the world․”
“We are all feeling the effects of rising gas and oil prices on our businesses and society as a whole, but it is important that we reach a solution through negotiations,” von der Leyen added.
