Russia ready to join mediation efforts on Iran

US-Iran negotiations were progressing quite successfully before the start of military operations, Russian Presidential Spokesperson Dmitry Peskov has said.

Peskov noted that Tehran had effectively confirmed its willingness for peaceful talks and is open to continuing them until military actions commenced.

“These negotiations were progressing quite successfully,” Peskov told reporters.

Meanwhile, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that Russia is ready to join mediation efforts regarding Iran and is conveying its assessments to Tehran, according to RIA Novosti.

“We are also ready to participate in mediation efforts. We are currently discussing all these issues, and of course, we are sharing our assessments and evolving viewpoints both with the Iranians and with the member states of the Gulf Cooperation Council,” Lavrov said.
