Turkey and Russia welcome US-Iran ceasefire
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has welcomed the temporary ceasefire reached between the United States and Iran.
“We hope the ceasefire will be fully implemented without any provocations,” Erdoğan said.
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, in turn, held a phone call with his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi. During the call, the sides discussed the temporary ceasefire agreement reached between the United States and Iran. Fidan welcomed the temporary ceasefire and stressed that efforts to establish lasting peace will continue.
The Kremlin also welcomed the ceasefire and expressed hope that direct contacts between the parties will take place in the near future.
Kremlin Spokesperson Dmitry Peskov noted that Russia had previously emphasized the importance of a swift return to diplomacy amid tensions in the Middle East.
“Russia hopes that the United States and Iran will pursue their interests at the negotiating table,” the Kremlin spokesperson stressed.
