France opposes fees for passage through Strait of Hormuz
France has voiced strong opposition to Iran’s plan to charge fees for ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz, calling the move illegal and unacceptable.
“This is unacceptable, because freedom of navigation in international waters is a common heritage of humanity and must not be restricted by any limitations or transit fees. No one will accept this, as the decision is illegal,” French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot said.
Iran had closed the Strait of Hormuz and, during the two-week truce, imposed a cryptocurrency fee for passage through the strait.
