Iran may attempt to break Strait of Hormuz blockade to extract concessions from Washington, The Washington Post writes

US officials believe that Iran may attempt to break the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz in order to extract concessions from Washington, The Washington Post columnist David Ignatius writes, citing sources.

Officials in the US administration are reportedly considering three possible scenarios.

  • US officials also believe that the likelihood of regime change in the Islamic Republic has increased following the ceasefire.
  • In addition, the US administration assesses that some Iranian leaders may be open to supporting Washington’s proposals.
  • Under a third scenario, the IRGC could allegedly attempt to break the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz or launch further strikes in order to force additional concessions from the United States.
