Death toll from earthquake in Japan reaches 180
The death toll from a number of massive earthquakes in the Noto Peninsula, off the Sea of Japan coast, has reached 180. The figures released by the authorities of Ishikawa Prefecture state this.
At least 120 people are still unaccounted for, while contact with emergency services cannot be established so that people can state their whereabouts. The number of the injured has become 565. About 28,000 residents from the earthquake-affected areas are still in evacuation centers.
Ishikawa Prefecture is the worst affected area: at least 1,370 houses have been completely or partially destroyed there, and more than 300 buildings have been destroyed in fires.
