UN: More than 10,200 civilians have been killed in Ukraine
The U.N. says since the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, more than 10,200 civilians have been killed. Since the intensified airstrikes by Russia in late December, 2023, the number of civilian casualties has been 125, more than 550 civilians have been injured. Director of Operations and Advocacy, Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs of the U.N. Edem Wosornu said this.
Wosornu made a report at the U.N. Security Council, noting that the number of civilians injured in the past two years has been more than 19,300, while the latest series of Russian airstrikes has caused massive destruction to homes, schools, hospitals, energy and other critical civilian infrastructure.
The U.N. always notes that the actual number of victims of the war in Ukraine is significantly larger than the recorded numbers. According to the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), about 6,3 million Ukrainians have fled to other countries since the outbreak of the war. Most of them, about 5,9 million, have settled in European countries; about 3,7 million Ukrainians are considered to be displaced from Ukraine.
