The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) reported in a statement on a drone attack on a U.S. military base in the northeast of Jordan. As a result, three U.S. service members were killed, and about 30 were injured.
Later, the Pentagon announced an increase in the number of those injured, noting that some of them had to be evacuated, Ria Novosti writes.
“The number of U.S. personnel with injuries has increased to at least 34 service members. Eight personnel that received injuries required evacuation from Jordan to higher level care. All other service members are being fully evaluated for follow-on care,” CENTCOM reports.
At the same time, the Pentagon has not ruled out the possibility of an increase in the number of the injured, as service members continue to seek medical care.
U.S. President Joe Biden blamed Iran-backed groups in Syria and Iraq for the attack. U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin has promised to retaliate.
Jordanian Government Spokesperson Muhannad Al Mubaidin has announced, in turn, that the U.S. Al-Tanf military base in Syria was attacked.
