28 killed, over 40 injured in 2 explosions in Pakistan

Two explosions took place in Balochistan province of Pakistan, killing 28 and injuring more than 40 people, local Geo TV channel reports.

The explosions came near the offices of the candidates for the National Assembly elections.

The first explosion occurred near the office of independent candidate Asfand Yar Khan Kakar. As a result, 15 people were killed and more than 30 were injured. Most of the injured are in critical condition.

Elections of the National Assembly and provincial assemblies will be held tomorrow, Feb. 8, in Pakistan. In the run-up to the elections, incidences of violence have increased in the country. In particular, on Jan. 31, independent candidate Rehan Zeb Khan was shot dead in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. The candidate of the Pakistan People’s Party, Syed Zulfiqar Ali Shah, was also attacked. The authorities have decided to use the armed forces to ensure security during the election.
