Suren Sargsyan: This situation around Azerbaijan and Congress will not persist, and in the meantime, we should make every effort to strengthen our weak positions in Washington

Yesterday, the State Department representative announced in Congress that U.S. national security interests will not be jeopardized if the U.S. stops providing Azerbaijan with military aid. Hours later, the Senate unanimously passed an act, stating that the president cannot bypass Section 907 of the FREEDOM Support Act until 2025 and that Baku will no longer receive military aid from Washington. International Relations Specialist Suren Sargsyan made a Facebook post on this.

According to Sargsyan, the provision of this aid to Azerbaijan was not against Armenia or Artsakh, but against Iran to ensure security along the Caspian border, as well as to fight terrorism and illegal drug trade.

“The Biden administration and Congress are not at odds with regard to Azerbaijan. However, this situation will not persist. In the meantime, we should make every effort to strengthen our weak positions in Washington,” he said, adding that the Armenian community and organizations are actively working in this direction.
