Scholz: Palestine should be a separate state without armed forces

Peace in the Middle East is possible only with the coexistence of two states, Palestine and Israel, while the Palestinian state should not have armed forces, Chancellor of Germany Olaf Scholz said at the Bundestag session.

“It is clear what kind of future the peaceful coexistence between Israel and Palestine may have. We are talking about a separate Palestinian state without its own army,” he said.

The chancellor of Germany noted that he expects there will be a complex discussion on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict at the EU summit starting today. At the same time, he noted that Germany will not betray its principles of supporting Israel.

Scholz noted that the Israeli hostages taken by Hamas should be released, more humanitarian aid should be delivered to the Gaza Strip, and more than 500 humanitarian trucks should arrive in the region every day.
