Red Cross visits persons Azerbaijan arrested
In early November, the International Committee of the Red
Cross (ICRC) visited some Armenians arrested by the Azerbaijani authorities.
ICRC Communication and Prevention Programs Manager Zara Amatuni said this to
Armenpress.
“We continue to visit all those Armenians who were arrested
by Azerbaijan and whose arrest has been confirmed by the Azerbaijani
authorities. We are talking about the persons who were arrested and have been
in Azerbaijan since 2020, since the escalation in 2021, as well as the one on
Sept. 19, 2023. We visit them on a regular basis. Thus, we give them the
opportunity to stay in contact with their families,” Amatuni said.
She noted that in October, the ICRC visited some of them in
Baku, and early this month, for the first time, visited those arrested after
the Sept. 19 hostilities. The organization has received confirmations on their
arrests recently.
As Amatuni noted, the meetings are private. Issues
concerning each person are discussed with them. The ICRC delegates keep the
detainees’ health condition and conditions of their detention in the center of
their attention. They do this through both private meetings and visits to all
possible places.
