Armenian Ombudsman: From the point of view of human rights, it will be problematic if the residents of Voskepar leave the settlement

From the point of view of human rights, yes, it will be problematic if the residents of Voskepar leave the settlement. The question is, who is responsible for the violation of that right. Human Rights Defender (Ombudsman) of Armenia Anahit Manasyan said this to the press.

“The issue of establishing the responsible parties is slightly different. In other words, comprehensive analysis and studies should be carried out. I would like to mention that in our annual report, we specifically addressed the issue of the rights of people living in border villages. We noted that their rights are violated mainly because of the presence of Azerbaijani servicemen. This means that the relevant state agencies of Armenia should take certain actions,” Manasyan said.

To remind, on March 18, 2024, Nikol Pashinyan visited Voskepar village of Tavush Province, after which the residents of Voskepar started to stage demonstrations so that the village will not be ceded to Azerbaijan.

Yesterday, April 3, the residents of the village sent a letter of demand to Pashinyan and expressed their disagreement with the possible territorial concessions.

“We express our disagreement over satisfying Azerbaijan’s territorial demands and making territorial concessions in this part of the border,” the residents of Voskepar said.
