The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has
called for “the protection of civilians in Gaza trapped in fighting, whether
they are trying to evacuate or staying where they are”.
As noted in the statement issued by the ICRC, hostilities
between Israel and Hamas take place in heavily populated areas and near
hospitals.
“An unbearable human tragedy is unfolding in front of our
eyes,” the ICRC noted.
The southern area of the Gaza Strip is not ready for the
influx of refugees, arriving there to escape fighting.
The ICRC notes that the humanitarian aid coming in is mostly
insufficient, while the refugees lack essentials, namely shelter, food, water
and hygiene products.
