Israeli Defense Ministry promises to increase aid to Gaza to 500 trucks a day
Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant has promised to increase humanitarian aid deliveries to the Gaza Strip to more than 500 trucks per day. As reported by The Jerusalem Post, Gallant announced a total of five such initiatives.
“We are planning to flood Gaza with aid and expect to reach 500 trucks a day very soon,” he said.
According to Gallant, they will also speed up security checks and step up cooperation with international partners. Last month, an average of 213 trucks entered the Gaza Strip per day, compared to 170 trucks before that. According to the minister, 467 trucks were allowed to enter the Gaza Strip on Tuesday, and 303 humanitarian aid containers were thrown out of aircraft.
Gallant promised to draw lessons from the deaths of seven World Central Kitchen aid workers and to create a mechanism to coordinate their actions with international organizations. According to the minister, Israel will also work with the U.S. on creating an “artificial island” to gather and distribute humanitarian aid.
