The Armenian cemetery in the city of Fresno, California, has been set on fire six times since January; a total of 19 trees have been burned. The latest incident happened on Friday, April 12; eight trees were burned near the main entrance into the cemetery. The Cemetery Board is very concerned and considers all of these incidents to be targeted hate crimes. Many prominent Armenian figures are buried in the cemetery, including Soghomon Tehlirian, William Saroyan, Victor Maghakian and others.
