Turkologist: Talking about the “Zangezur corridor” in Uzbekistan is a message to Armenians and not to the Uzbeks

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has left for Uzbekistan
to attend the summit of the Economic Cooperation Organization. As the Turkish
media reports, the development of regional transport infrastructure is going to
be on the agenda for the summit. The issue of the “Zangezur corridor” will also
be discussed.

ABC Media spoke with Turkologist Tiran Lokmagyozyan to find out why Erdoğan
discusses the Syunik issue with Uzbek officials.

As the Turkologist says, this is nothing but the fulfillment
of Turkey’s distant dream.

“This is their plan, and it is of paramount importance to
them. This is their 100-year-long dream. For Turan to become a reality, they
need to take a plot of land from Armenia. Turkey stated this 100 years ago and
is pursuing this very policy today as well. They are pressing ahead with this
plan everywhere, be that Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan or another country,” the expert
noted.

Lokmagyozyan says that this move is directed at us, and not
at the Uzbeks or the Arabs.

“This is a message to Armenia, saying that they have not
forgotten anything and have not postponed anything, although the recent signals
coming from both Azerbaijan and Turkey seem to be slowing down,” the
Turkologist noted.

However, the expert added that the road running through Iran
is a bait.

“No, they will never backtrack on their goal, as they want a road. They already
have a road. Turkey has roads both through Iran and Georgia. However, the road
is not their prime aim. First, their aim is to have a road that will belong to
them and will not be controlled by Armenians, Russians, or Iranians. Second,
their aim is to cut Armenia off its southern lands and to turn it into a
Turkish vilayet,” Lokmagyozyan concluded.
