International press: The treaty under the terms of Baku is a harsh reality for Armenia

According to political scientist Andrey Suzdaltsev, the Armenian society is completely disappointed with the situation created, as it was after the defeat in the 2020 war. However, the experts who spoke with RIA Novosti agree that, in fact, nothing threatens Pashinyan’s power yet.

According to expert Alexander Krylov, the Armenian prime minister has no room to maneuver, and he can only continue the peace process and sign a treaty on Baku’s terms. “This is a harsh reality for Armenia, because there are no allies that can protect it. Hopes regarding France, India or Cyprus are illusions,” the expert noted. According to the Armenian experts who spoke with Kommersant, the engagement of the Church in acts of civil disobedience “is an indicator of the Opposition’s failure”. The prospects of the parliamentary Opposition are not that good.

The newspaper also finds it significant that Nikol Pashinyan has left for Denmark, where he will attend the Copenhagen Democracy Summit 2024 on May 15. Thus, the Armenian prime minister is trying to show that everything is under control, and he is not afraid to leave the country for a few days.

Channel One Russia and NTV covered acts of civil disobedience in Armenia with press reports. It was noted that the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan is being drawn in accordance with the borders that existed at the time of the collapse of the USSR. Pashinyan agreed to this when he recognized the sovereignty of Azerbaijan, including Artsakh, a year ago. The arrests of protesters were also mentioned in the reports.
