Russian foreign ministry: Moscow made a proposal to bypass the ratification of the Rome Statute
Before Armenia would ratify the Rome Statute, Moscow had
proposed to bypass it, the press service of the Russian Ministry of Foreign
Affairs reports.
The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs denied Armenian NA
Vice President Hakob Arshakyan’s statement that Armenia had proposed through
diplomatic channels to sign a bilateral interstate agreement that would exclude
the possibility of execution of the international court’s orders with regard to
the bilateral issues, but did not receive a response.
“During bilateral meetings, the Russian side put forward
counterproposals: to put the ICC mechanisms into practice without the
ratification of the Rome Statute. Such a practice has been introduced. Sad to
say, our compromise solutions were disregarded,” reads the statement made by
the Russian foreign ministry. They also added that Armenia ratified the statute
for political motives.
