Russia’s Army General Staff deputy chief arrested for suspected bribe-taking

Lt. Gen. Vadim Shamarin, the head of the Main Communications Directorate of the Armed Forces of Russia and the deputy chief of the General Staff, has been arrested for suspected bribe-taking, the 235th Garrison Military Court of Russia told RIA Novosti.

“The court has approved the motion put by the body conducting the investigation to choose pre-trial detention as a preventive measure on Vadim Shamarin,” the agency was told.

The general is suspected of taking particularly huge bribes.
