Common Space: What Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan is doing is no mean feat

Until now, the Armenian Opposition has not had such a leader who could unite them in their efforts to overthrow Nikol Pashinyan, Common Space.eu writes.

“That could change if a new political force led by a charismatic and populist alternative were to emerge. This month, the opposition hoped they have such an alternative in Bagrat Galstanyan, Archbishop of the Tavush Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church,” the media outlet says in an article.

Recent poll shows that Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan gained 3.9% support, second only to Pashinyan. According to the author of the article, this might seem low but he has only just emerged as a nationalist rival; հe has managed to unite parliamentary and extra-parliamentary political forces around him. “In a country such as Armenia where political divisions run deep, that is no mean feat,” the author wrote, noting that Pashinyan’s predicament looks increasingly precarious as the 2026 parliamentary elections approach.
