Russian political scientist: Pashinyan does not realize where he is dragging his country
Western countries, which have wagered on Pashinyan, are not yet ready to sacrifice him, political scientist Ruslan Kurbanov said.
According to him, if the protesters in Armenia keep on with the pressure, the country’s authorities will deploy larger forces against them.
“This may lead to more violent civil clashes in Armenia, because the people of the country are very upset about how Pashinyan, without discussions, is unilaterally ceding the country’s territory to Azerbaijan. This angers the Armenian population, which demands that Pashinyan give up this policy,” the expert noted.
According to him, the main beneficiary of Pashinyan’s staying in office is France, which is trying to get Armenia out of Russia’s sphere of influence and, at the same time, to keep Georgia, which is increasingly withdrawing from the influence of the West, under control.
Returning to the topic of protests in Yerevan, the political scientist noted that Pashinyan, like former Georgian president Saakashvili, does not realize where he is dragging his country. Kurbanov added that the prime minister of Armenia is currently turning his country toward the West, “keeping one foot in the CSTO in order not to annoy Russia”.
