Russian State Duma Defense Committee chair: The tragedy is that the decision regarding the CSTO will be made by the leadership of Armenia, which does not advance the interests of the Armenian people
The possible decision of Armenia to withdraw from the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) will not affect the organization, but only Armenia’s defense capability, Andrey Kartapolov, the chairman of the Defense Committee of the Russian State Duma, told RIA Novosti.
“This will only affect the defense capability of Armenia and nothing else. So, of course, this decision should be made by the Armenian side, but the thing is that, unfortunately, it will be made by the present leadership of Armenia, which does not act in the interests of the Armenian people. Therein lies the tragedy,” Kartapolov said.
According to the MP, Russia hopes that the Armenian people and not the country’s leadership will show common sense.
