Vazgen Manukyan: The attack on Abraham Gasparyan proves that these authorities target individuals with a national mindset
Vazgen Manukyan, the leader of the National Democratic Union party and the former prime minister of Armenia, issued a statement regarding the violence used against protesters in Baghramyan Avenue.
The statement reads below:
“The atrocities committed yesterday by the police against the peaceful demonstrators outside the National Assembly building have no human, professional, or legal explanation. This is a crime that should be punished to the fullest extent of the law.
The police system has become the henchman of one man’s illegal orders. And yesterday, from the National Assembly, Nikol Pashinyan directed the police to carry out these actions.
The particularly brutal attack on journalist and public figure Abraham Gasparyan proves that these authorities target individuals with a national mindset.
The authorities, not based on the value system of their people, are alienated from the people, having law enforcement bodies as their only pillar. And such authorities cannot have a long life.
The victory of the popular movement is inevitable, and these actions by the authorities only bring that victory closer.”
