Protest in support of Armen Ashotyan

Court hearing on RPA Vice President Armen Ashotyan’s case is
being held in the RA Anti-Corruption Court. Ashotyan’s supporters have gathered
outside the court building. As former NA MP Naira Zohrabyan said, there is no
European organization that does not accept that Armen Ashotyan is a political
prisoner.

“Judges, there is a huge stigma attached to you: You hold
people in custody by violating the Criminal code and the code of legal ethics.
This is nothing but torment and a violation of the Geneva Conventions. The day
will come when you will be held responsible for all of this,” Zohrabyan
said.

“How can authorities, having over 15 political prisoners,
beating opposition MPs in the National Assembly, using violence against
peaceful demonstrators and trumping up criminal charges, be called democratic?”
RPA member Eduard Sharmazanov said.

To remind, Armen Ashotyan is accused of abusing his
authority and of money laundering.
