Huge earthquake strikes Iran killing people
An earthquake measuring 5.0 on the Richter scale happened in Razavi Khorasan province in northeastern Iran. As a result, two people were killed and five others were injured, ISNA news agency reported, referring to Khojatolla Shariatmadari, the head of the province.
“Five people were injured in the 5-magnitude earthquake and the 2.7-magnitude aftershock that followed… Unfortunately, two people died in the collapse of the facade of a commercial property in the city of Kashmar,” he said.
The official explained that the work of clearing away the rubble has started. According to him, the rescuers have managed to pull out a child from the rubble; the child has been taken to hospital. The rescuers are also trying to get a married couple out from under the rubble.
