EU ambassadors agree on 14th sanction package against Russia

The permanent representatives of the European Union (EU) have agreed on the 14th package of sanctions against Russia, the Belgian Presidency of the Council of the EU said in an X post on June 20.

“EU Ambassadors just agreed on a powerful and substantial 14th package of sanctions in reaction to the Russian aggression against Ukraine,” reads the post.

As noted, the package provides new targeted measures and maximizes the impact of existing sanctions by closing loopholes.

President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen disclosed the details regarding the new restrictions. She wrote on X that the new package of sanctions will be “hard-hitting” and will affect energy, technology and banking services.

“This hard-hitting package will further deny Russia access to key technologies. It will strip Russia of further energy revenues. And tackle Putin’s shadow fleet and shadow banking network abroad,” she said.
