Hungarian foreign minister: The Armenian Apostolic Church has played a significant role in restoring diplomatic relations between Armenia and Hungary
This visit closes the decade marked with the absence of
diplomatic ties or contacts between our countries. Hungarian Foreign Minister
Péter Szijjártó said this during a joint press conference with Armenian Foreign
Minister Ararat Mirzoyan in Yerevan.
Szijjártó strongly emphasized the role of the Armenian
Apostolic Church in restoring diplomatic relations — which were severed for a
certain period of time — between Armenia and Hungary.
“We have decided with the Armenian foreign minister to
resume diplomatic ties and to cultivate such cooperation that will serve the
interests of both nations and countries. This will help us, as Christianity
unites us. Both states have been Christian countries for many centuries. We
Hungarians proudly announce that we have been living in a Christian state for
more than 1000 years. But when we visit Armenia and find out when you adopted
Christianity, we get humbled. Christianity and the Armenian Apostolic Church
have played a significant role in restoring the relations between our
countries,” he said.
