Criminals escape from Pakistani prison
At least 19 prisoners, six of whom were on death row on terrorism charges, escaped from a prison in the city of Rawalakot in Pakistan’s Kashmir region, the newspaper Dawn reports.
Another prisoner was injured during the escape and later died in the prison hospital.
The law enforcement authorities have launched a search. Among the criminals at large, there are persons sentenced to 25 or more years in prison.
Eight prison officers have been detained pending an investigation of the incident. The authorities also fired several officials responsible for the incident.
