Thousands of people at a religious gathering in India rushed to leave a makeshift tent, setting off a stampede that killed at least 116 people and injured more than 80, The Associated Press writes.
Local news reports cited authorities who said heat and suffocation in the tent could have been a factor.
As reported, most of the victims were women and children․
