Polls open in UK for parliamentary election

Parliamentary elections in the U.K. started on July 4, with 40,000 polling stations to be open across the country until 10:00 p.m., Sky News.

“Polls open across the country in the first general election for almost five years,” the news channel said.

A total of 650 parliamentary constituencies are being contested. The party with the greatest number of seats will have the right to form the government.

When all the votes are counted after the polls close, a party needs 326 seats for a majority in the House of Commons without relying on support from smaller parties.

On July 3, it was reported that British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak was fearful of becoming the first British Prime Minister to lose his seat in the country’s parliament.
