Dinosaur skeleton sells at auction for record $44.6 million

A large dinosaur’s skeleton has fetched $44.6 million at a Sotheby’s auction in New York City – the most ever paid for a fossil, the BBC writes.

The plant-eating stegosaurus, nicknamed Apex, is 3.4 meters tall and 8.2 meters long from nose to tail.

“Apex was born in America and is going to stay in America,” the buyer said.

Apex was discovered by chance by a palaeontologist in 2022 near the suitably named town of Dinosaur in the western U.S. state of Colorado.
