Scholz planning to run for German chancellor again

Chancellor of Germany Olaf Scholz (Social Democratic Party) announced his intention to run again for the head of the German government in the 2025 election, Armenpress reports.

“The SDP is a very united party,” Scholz told reporters at a summer press conference in Berlin.

He added that the Social Democrats intend to win the 2025 federal election.

“I will run for chancellor to become chancellor again,” Scholz said.

The next Bundestag (German Parliament) elections are due in 2025. Based on the results, a new government will be formed, and a new chancellor will be elected. Earlier, Scholz had announced his desire to become an SDP candidate again. Scholz now leads the coalition government, which, besides the Social Democratic Party, includes the Greens and the Free Democrats.
