In Turkey, the operation of the social networking service Instagram was blocked on Friday morning by the decision of Turkey’s Information and Communication Technologies Authority. The reasons and duration of the ban have not been mentioned on the agency’s website.
The newspaper BirGün does not rule out the possibility that such a decision was made due to the blocking of condolences on Instagram in connection with the murder of Ismail Haniyeh, the political leader of Hamas. This decision was condemned by the communication department of the office of the Turkish president.
