Top Russian officials: From Shoigu’s visit to Baku and Tehran to Washington’s destabilizing steps in the South Caucasus

Russian President Vladimir Putin asked Sergei Shoigu, the secretary of the country’s Security Council, to report on the outcomes of his visits to Iran and Azerbaijan.

Vladimir Dzhabarov, the first deputy chairman of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs, said in a Telegram post that Washington does not hesitate to do its best to destabilize the South Caucasus.

“Apparently, the U.S. plans to use the territory of Armenia for military purposes against Iran.

One of the largest U.S. embassies in the world operates in Yerevan, with thousands of employees, some of whom are engaged in the Iranian direction. But political and diplomatic interaction is not enough for Americans when it comes to inciting conflicts in a particular region. Therefore, Washington has now agreed on the engagement of its military advisor in the Ministry of Defense of Armenia and also wants to deploy military systems on the border with Iran,” the senator wrote.

The West only creates the illusion of security for Armenia, Alexey Zhuravlev, the first deputy chairman of the State Duma Defense Committee, believes. According to him, they only promise Armenia all kinds of support, in fact giving nothing. Thus, the deputy noted, Washington does not supply weapons to Yerevan. According to Zhuravlev, it is only France that deals with this, but it provides only outdated weapons to Armenia.

The pro-Western policy of the Armenian authorities is a road leading nowhere, Sergei Tsekov, a member of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs, said. “Armenia has no other way of conducting foreign policy than to have good relations with Russia. The attempt to reorient toward Europe and the United States is a very short-sighted policy. I think that with the departure of Pashinyan’s team, there will be another turn toward Russia and the CSTO countries,” Tsekov noted.
