Greek firefighters unable to extinguish forest fires
Greek firefighters have been unable to put out the fires that broke out in the town of Varnavas on Sunday afternoon. The evacuation of residents from seven settlements was announced early Monday morning.
The fire in Varnavas started at 3:00 p.m. and spread quickly due to strong winds. Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis had to cancel his holiday due to the critical situation and return to Athens.
