Russia is pulling reserves from Crimea, while Ukraine is redeploying troops from the eastern front: Media coverage of ‘Putin’s nightmare’
A source in Ukraine’s security service told CNN the Ukrainian attack targeted four bases in the southwest regions of Kursk and Voronezh, and Nizhny Novgorod, east of Moscow.
The source said Russia has pulled reserves from Crimea to repel Kyiv’s advances.
According to The Independent, up to 2,000 Russian soldiers have surrendered to the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Kursk region.
Bloomberg wrote that it has been close to a century since the last invasion of Russia by another sovereign power. Now, for the first time in the 21st century, an invading military power, Ukraine, is in possession of hundreds of square miles of Russian territory.
Ukraine has carried out what more than two years of Western advice and support was designed to help it accomplish. According to the media company, the offensive operation into Russia will boost confidence in Ukraine, where nearly 25% of the population has either fled the country or been internally displaced. As noted, Putin’s worst nightmare is now unfolding. “The Ukrainians are bringing home the consequences of Putin’s attack in a very direct way”.
The Wall Street Journal, The Wall Street Jouranal-ն for its part, wrote that the attack on the Kursk region threatens to aggravate the already difficult situation of the Ukrainian armed forces on the eastern front. As noted, Ukraine has to “redeploy troops from the eastern front” to Kursk, leaving units here even more stretched.
