Scientists detect water leak from Mars due to Sun
American scientists from Boston University found out that Mars continues to lose water, evaporating from the atmosphere into space. The research was published in the scientific journal Science Advances (SciAdv).
Despite its dry surface, Mars still has large reserves of water in its depths. According to estimates, a globally equivalent layer of moisture on the Red Planet could cover it with an ocean one to two kilometers deep.
Relatively little water ice is also left in the surface permafrost and in the polar caps of Mars. In summer, this ice can sublimate, releasing water vapor into the atmosphere.
