In an Oct.3 telephone conversation with the U.S. lawmakers,
U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken warned them that Azerbaijan may invade
southern Armenia in the coming weeks. Politico’s unnamed sources report.
According to the sources, during the conversation, the
lawmakers demanded that all necessary measures be taken against Aliyev in
response to his invasion of Nagorno-Karabakh in September.
“The State Department is looking at avenues to hold
Azerbaijan accountable and isn’t planning to renew a long-standing waiver that
allows the U.S. to provide military assistance to Baku. We see a possibility
that Azerbaijan will invade southern Armenia in the coming weeks,” Blinken
responded.
